History
In the early years the focus of history teaching is placed on developing the child’s understanding of the past, the present and the future. From Year 3 onwards particular attention is paid to researching particular periods. Emphasis in all these lessons is placed on the value of seeking for information from a wide variety of sources.
The children are introduced to different historical periods and through their studies, which include visits to museums and landmarks of historical importance, we aim to develop their historical understanding, knowledge and research skills. Children are given plenty of opportunities to raise and respond to a range of questions, which focus on them making inferences and deductions and drawing conclusions from their studies.
Lessons often include visits to museums, Art Galleries and exhibitions, where the children can be given access to original documents and artefacts.
